Everyone remembers the breathtaking end to the last Dakar and the final 164 km special stage during which Pablo Quintanilla pressured Sam Sunderland. Although the Chilean was the fastest at almost every checkpoint, taking nearly seven minutes out of his opponent, it wasn't enough to capture the glory. Second, at three minutes behind the winner after an intelligent and brave race, Pablo could still be satisfied at the finish. He is now ready to race his 11th Dakar. Quintanilla made his debut in the rally in 2013, and from the first stage, he showed his pace and speed to take an impressive third-place result. Unfortunately, a crash later ended his maiden Dakar prematurely. In 2014, his rally came to a premature end again due to a hand injury. The following year, on the other hand, Pablo excelled from start to finish. Fourth at the end of the opening week, he won the difficult Uyuni stage and fought with Toby Price for the podium until the end of the rally. The Chilean moved up a spot in 2016, finishing third and adding another stage win to his name. That year, Pablo and his Husqvarna also won the world title in rally cross-country, and the following season they retained the title. In 2017, while in second place in the general classification, Quintanilla crashed heavily and lost consciousness, resulting in another DNF. Eighth in 2018, he fought with Toby Price until the end for the victory. Despite a crash a hundred kilometres from the finish that left him with a double fractured ankle, the Chilean still finished in fourth place. In 2020, in the first edition in Saudi Arabia, Pablo won two stages and finished second, 16 minutes behind the winner, Ricky Brabec. The 2021 edition, on the other hand, is one he would like to forget. Too many problems forced him to settle for seventh place overall. Quintanilla left Husqvarna four months later to join the Honda team. For his first race with the Japanese brand, the Chilean rider finished third in the Rally of Andalucía. His rapid adaptation to the bike and new team resulted in a victory in the Rally of Morocco. In 2022, after excelling in the Dakar, Pablo Quintanilla finished on the podium in Abu Dhabi despite a fractured vertebra. He then won the Acatama Rally in his native Chile before being injured and forced to retire in Morocco and withdraw from Andalucía. Specific medical care allowed him to get back on the bike at the end of November without any pain or discomfort. Pablo should therefore be 100% for the next Dakar.

Returning to X-Raid in 2011, Terranova rolled his X3 out of the rally on the seventh stage, and once again failed to finish in 2012 while competing in a Toyota when his co-driver Andy Grider quit the rally on the fourth day following an argument with Terranova.[3] The same year, he took victory in the Dakar Series-sanctioned Desafio Litoral event, as well as the Desafio Ruta 40, with his new co-driver Paulo Fiuza.
Started by French motorcylist Thierry Sabine, the first rally of 182 vehicles left Paris on Dec. 26, 1978 on a 6,000-mile journey to Dakar, Senegal. The race has been in South America since security concerns forced the cancellation of the 2008 rally.
Back at the start of 2010, Speedbrain began developing a version of the BMW G450X, which was specifically designed to meet the demands of marathon rallies. BMW made its return to the Rally Dakar with this bike at the start of 2011. By spring 2011, the engineers at Speedbrain had already started to develop and assemble a new rally bike: the Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain.
It is an ultra-modern and innovative racing motorbike, which is particularly light, possesses good handling and stability on a wide range of terrains, giving the rider maximum confidence. Husqvarna is feeding its know-how into the further development of the engine and endurance mapping to improve stability. Speedbrain and its research and development department are responsible for developing the chassis and rally-specific components. The bike is continuously being developed and optimised in cooperation with the riders.
The electronics form one complex but key area, as the rally bike is equipped with numerous navigational and safety components. The Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain has its own electronics system, which was developed specifically for this motorcycle and is also the subject of continuous modifications and improvements. In addition, Speedbrain reworked and partly redeveloped the entire frame concept after the 2012 Rally Dakar. As such, the bike that lines up at the 2013 Rally Dakar will be a further development of the bike used in 2012, which has been improved in many areas.
Among the features of the rally version is a very compact, concept-driven package in the chassis area. This allows the optimal integration of the two-part central/rear tank in the bike, which in turn guarantees the rider maximum freedom of movement, Enduro-like ergonomics and perfect balance. The fact that the Husqvarna TE449 RR by Speedbrain is so light is down, in part, to the aerodynamically optimised Carbon Kevlar fairing and a special rear part. The Carbon Kevlar engine protection with integrated three-litre water tank gives the engine and the low rally header pipe full protection.
Sixth on the stage and just 29s in arrears of Al-Attiyah was Kuba Przygónski and Armand Monleon in the X-raid Mini JCW Rally. Przygónski is enjoying a rich vein of form in the second week after reliability issues took him out of the running early in the rally.
The legend of the Dakar is perpetuated at each edition with the presence of the international rally- raid elite. In January 2021, more than 500 experienced and amateur drivers will compete at the wheel of cars, trucks, motorcycles, SSVs and quads combining power and endurance. A new event will also make its appearance: the Dakar Classic. The glories of yesteryear will have the pleasure of competing in a regularity event organized in parallel with the Dakar, with identical start and finish locations. Replicas of vehicles designed before 2000 and having taken part in the Dakar will be admissible as vintage cars and trucks. Invited participants include Nasser Al-Attiyah (winner of the 2019 Dakar), Stéphane Peterhansel (13 Dakar victories: 6 motorcycle and 7 car), Carlos Sainz (double world champion and double winner of the Dakar Rally). Rebellion is once again involved in the race with two cars bearing the colors of Rebellion Racing. One is driven by Alexandre Pesci, president of Rebellion Timepieces, the other by Romain Dumas, winner among others of the 24 hours of Le Mans and record holder of the Pikes Peak hill climb race.
